BJJ  Beginners Program

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Beginners

Technique 1

The BJJ Soul beginners program is divided into 3 phases.  The break down of these techniques sets achievable goals, making it easier to understand and stay motivated. This program was originally created to cater to children, but ultimately jiu jitsu for adult beginners is the same. The goal is to combine different learning techniques to ease in a new member of the BJJ community.

New practitioners need to learn fundamental movements that, with repetition, will become muscle memory. During classes, most gyms perform these moves during the warm-up. Every day the same steps because repetition is key.

Phase 1 - “Master self”

Before you can impose moves on people, you have to learn how to use your own body. Get used to the weight of it, and how to move it. All these moves will be translated to the game of jiu jitsu later on.

Phase 2 - “Frame for defense”

Now that you know how to move your body now, its time to “survive”. Yes, we are speaking figuratively on how to survive on the game, but these moves are very effective for self-defense.

Phase 3 - “Attacks”

Now that you can move your body + defend your self, you are ready for phase 3 - attack moves.
These techniques are solo drills that you can do it at home or at the gym during open mat hours.
